A young person usually starts in Beavers (6–8), moves up to Cubs (8–10½), then to Scouts (10½–14), with the option to continue into Explorers (14–18) and Network (18–25) as they get older. Here at 10th Finchley, we offer Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections. Some Scout groups also have a section for younger children, Squirrels. Please use the Barnet Scouts website to look for groups running Squirrels, Explorers and Network sections in Barnet.
Our Group offers age-appropriate Scouting from age 6 to 14, following the national Scouts programme. Each section focuses on developing confidence, teamwork, outdoor skills and community values through hands-on, fun activities. All sessions are run by trained adult volunteers supported by Young Leaders.
All sections run weekly sessions during term time, with programmes planned each term. Most sections meet for 1 hour or 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on age group. We use two main venues throughout the year:
Summer Term (outdoors): Frith Manor Grange – outdoor skills, games, nature sessions
Autumn & Spring Terms (indoors/mixed): Gordon Hall, Huntly Dr (off Nether Street) – community space for craft, badges and indoor activities
Leaders will confirm exact meeting arrangements for each section at the beginning of every term.
Our Group can only run with the help of adult volunteers. You do not need prior Scouting experience—just enthusiasm and a willingness to join in.
